73.00325.00

The spice known as cloves is produced from the flower buds of an evergreen tree known as the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum). When the clove flower buds are still immature, they are collected and dried. Whole cloves have a tiny, reddish-brown spike shape with a bulbous top that is typically 1 centimeter in length. Cloves have a very potent, aromatic flavour and perfume and can be used whole or ground.

Description

What are Cloves?

Spices with a strong warm flavour and scent include cloves. The chemical eugenol is responsible for the flavour. There is a notable degree of heat along with sweetness, bitterness, and astringency (drying the mouth) on the tongue. Allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg are similar warm spices. A pumpkin pie blend frequently combines these ingredients. Less cloves are used in a recipe or mix since they are far more potent than their less potent flavour siblings. Some people decide to completely avoid using cloves because they believe the flavour to be overpowering.

Cloves, either whole or ground, are a common ingredient in many traditional Indian recipes and are used to flavour sauces, soups, and rice dishes.

Cloves should be kept dry and cool, preferably in an airtight container. Whole cloves will remain fresh for nearly a year as opposed to three months for ground cloves and will retain their strength longer than ground cloves.

For a very long time, dental pain was treated at home with cloves.2 Cloves’ flavouring compound, eugenol, also acts as a painkiller and anti-inflammatory. Find clove oil (or oil of cloves) at the pharmacy’s dental care aisle. Keep any clove oil out of the reach of children and only apply diluted, child-safe remedies to them because it can be poisonous to them. Consult your pediatrician or dentist after carefully reading the instructions.
