Description
What is Green Cardamon?
The spice cardamom is one of the oldest in the world. Cardamom is utilized as a crucial garnish in biryanis and pulaos and has a potent, distinctive flavour as well as an intensely aromatic, resinous scent. It is a typical element in Indian cuisine and is frequently used in masala chai (spiced tea) and traditional Indian desserts. Because the seeds quickly lose flavour when exposed to the air or when they are ground, it is better to store it in pod form. In the making of “gahwa,” a potent cardamom coffee beverage that is a symbol of hospitality among Arabs, green cardamom is frequently utilized.
Cardamom is utilized to zest both sweet and savory dishes. It is broadly utilized in Indian, Center Eastern, Arabic, and Swedish food. It comes in two sorts and is utilized as entire cases, seeds, or ground. Cardamom is found within the garam masala flavor blend that seasons meat and vegetable dishes, and in hot refreshments such as masala chai and Turkish coffee.
What Flavour Does It Have? With undertones of lemon and mint, cardamom has a potent, sweet, aromatic flavour and scent. Smoky and menthol cooling notes are also present in black cardamom.
If a recipe calls for ground cardamom, you can substitute powdered cardamom for it, but starting with the pods will result in a more flavorful dish. Green cardamom pods are briefly toasted in a dry skillet. Remove the seeds from the pods when they have cooled for a moment. Save the pods to use as flavouring in your coffee or tea. For optimal results, ground the seeds in a mortar and pestle; alternatively, you can use an electric spice grinder (similar to a coffee grinder).
For hot beverages like coffee, just ground three to four green cardamom seeds with the coffee beans before adding the hot water as usual. Although some customs call for grinding the entire pod, using just the seeds is acceptable.
Storage:
Cardamom is best kept whole in a sealed container in a cool, dry location. While ground cardamom can be stored in a similar manner, it should be used right away because it will quickly lose its effectiveness.
Other Names:
Capalaga, Ilachi, Green Cardamom, Ceylon Cardamom, True Cardamom.
